Our staff at the Emergency Children’s Shelters work diligently to create a well-rounded schedule of fun activities and field trips throughout the summer months. We are also grateful for businesses and organizations that enhance the kid’s lives with activities onsite and off that give the kids fun rewards and experiences to look forward to each day.

Many Firsts

Trips to the park, going out to dinner or watching a movie is something most kids take for granted. However, there are many firsts that happen at our Emergency Children’s Shelters, such as the first time a child gets to go swimming, enjoy a museum, or simply listen to a bedtime story.

This month, the kids gathered together at AZ Ice in Gilbert to cool down and celebrate summer. There were 19 staff and kids who attended.

“None of our children have experienced ice skating before, and many were reaching and kneeling down to feel the ice with their hands,” says Amy Holstein, Child Development Manager at the Mesa Emergency Children’s Shelter. “We had many falls, all of which included laughter.”

“These experiences and memories are crucial to a child’s healthy development as it allows them to explore a variety of environments that promote their physical and mental well being. Enriching activities really allow our children to expand their horizons and encourage them to try new things they may have not been able to participate in otherwise,” says Amy Holstein.

Thank You

With back to school coming up soon, kids living at our Emergency Children’s Shelter will remember trips to the Phoenix Children’s Museum, Mud Mania, Angry Crab Shack, Camp Zoo at the Phoenix Zoo and much more. As the hotter months wind down, we look forward to planning a whole new schedule of events and field trips to further the growth and development for the kids we care for each and every day.
